MAY FLOWERS AND FOOD

Huge purple iris in my front yard

Hello and welcome to May! (Queue Justin Timberlake reference) Spring is here, and summer is on its way!  We had quite a soggy April in Oklahoma, but you know what they say, April showers bring May flowers.  My peonies are huge and the most beautiful shade of pink, I planted some iris bulbs this last fall not knowing what would happen but crossing my fingers and boom, they sprouted and are GORGEOUS!!!

Food and Photos in Vermont

In April I went to Brattleboro, VT for a Food Photography Workshop. It was amazing. I have posted about the workshop a few times, but I learned so much!  You think you know everything, or at least most things, but then you go to workshops like these, and you find a whole new way of thinking, and learn things you never knew you never knew. Like how to arrange items by size and color, and how to use light to your advantage to catch the viewers’ eye and create outstanding images.

We had several assignments/projects to work on including pastries, ingredient layout, charcuterie boards, drinks, soup (yes soup), and finding a new style. For this last assignment, we were instructed to take items to shoot in the style that we are used to and like, and then had to change it up to a new style, like dark and moody. I personally picked the dark and moody because I am a bright and color type of girl so dark and moody was a fun challenge for me.  Especially fun with cake.  As my instructor called it, “Goth Birthday”.

Quarterly product photography subscriptions

Can you believe we’re already five months into the year?
It feels like 2025 just started, and somehow, we’re almost halfway through. If you’re feeling the rush and wondering how you’re going to keep up with everything—you are not alone. As a small business owner, you’re juggling a hundred different things, and product (or food!) photography is often one of those tasks that get pushed to the bottom of the list.

That’s exactly why I offer monthly and quarterly photography subscriptions—designed for busy makers like you who are launching new collections, updating packaging, prepping for seasonal promotions, or just trying to stay consistent with marketing.

Here’s how it works: Each quarter, we hop on a call to go over what you’re focusing on—whether it’s new releases, wholesale catalogs, website updates, or social content. I’ll pick up your products, plan and style a shoot based on your goals and brand vibe, and deliver beautiful, high-quality images ready for whatever platform you need—Instagram, your online shop, marketing emails, and more.

And yes, food photography is now part of the mix! Whether you're a restaurant looking to refresh your menu visuals, a caterer promoting seasonal offerings, or a food product maker wanting polished images for your marketing and packaging, I’ve got you covered. I create mouthwatering, brand-aligned images that help your food look as amazing as it tastes—perfect for websites, social media, and promotional materials.

You’ve got plenty on your plate. Let me take photography off your to-do list.

Curious if a subscription is the right fit for your business? Let’s chat. I’d love to learn more about what you’re working on and how I can support you.

My salad recipe I have yet to try

While at my Food Photography Workshop, one of our assignments was to put together ingredients for an ingredient shoot of our own device.  In true “I don’t know what I want to eat” fashion I grabbed some ingredients that I thought would make a good salad.  Among the ingredients I chose were green lettuce, mushrooms, shallots, gorgonzola cheese and grapes. I also picked apple cider vinegar, olive oil and raspberries and blackberries that I thought would be a delicious vinaigrette.  The entire time during this shoot, while experimenting with the styling of the food using our instructors’ guidelines, working with the spectacular spring sunlight of Vermont streaming in through the window, camera settings and camera angles, I thought, this salad might actually be pretty good.  I could picture this salad with maybe grilled salmon as a tasty summer dinner.  I still haven’t made this salad as of this writing, I think I need to.  Stay tuned to my social media to see how it turned out.  Maybe I will even decide to put together a photoshoot for it.

That’s all I have for today, be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already. I will always have fun stuff in store and you never know what will come out of my head and onto my keyboard.
